With Drumpf’s new assault on the media, I cannot help but recall that priceless Harry Potter quote:
“And that's the second time we've saved your life tonight, you two-faced bastard!”
Just this week we saw them helping promote Drumpf’s narrative that Repugs somehow “won” this election, first by eagerly calling out races for Repugs leading by <1% in friggin’ FLORIDA, while being timid about calling clear Dem wins. In NM-02 they outdid themselves by wrongly (and prematurely) calling it against Xochitl, without checking how many absentee ballots there are and what they might hold.
And in the lead-up to the election,
They gobbled up and spread the “Caravan” ploy, as if they were born yesterday. At least per my impression, they were criminally super-timid and negligent on connecting the dots between Drumpf/GOP incitement, and the #MAGAbomber and the Squirrel Hill massacre.With this willful negligence, they literally helped Drumpf and Repugs avoid a much, much worse election night. Close your eyes for a second and imagine a wall-to-wall media onslaught on them in the aftermath of the terror attack, of the type Democrats have faced repeatedly for sins such as having a private email server. Imagine no one outside of Faux News even mentioning the caravan except to ridicule it as a transparent, pathetic Drumpf trick, and saying they will not get drawn into coverage of fake events during election season.
The media have trained us to not even expect true fairness and balance. They are the bullies’ chief enablers.
They collaborate with him, and before him with McConnell and the “Tea Party” during Obama years, and before that with W.Bush’s merry band of planet wreckers… they pretend not to be political, but for at least two decades they have been critical enablers of the worst the right wing can offer.
Yes, we need to protect the media. But I wonder what needs to be done so that they will finally start doing their friggin’ job instead of undermining us all.
